State Route 99 Tunnel, Seattle, Washington

Provided Building Information Model and coordination for 120’ deep excavation access shaft used for Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) repair.  Coordination efforts included field survey data, existing and utility relocations, as-built modeling of existing SR99 Viaduct, TBM modeling and staging, structural secant pile design, geotechnical and dewatering coordination.  

 

181 Fremont, San Francisco, California

Provided BIM and discipline coordination for the deep foundation excavation support for this 54 floor (802 ft) mixed-use tower south of Market District of San Francisco. The design of the 60’ deep excavation was adjacent to the Transbay Transit Center.  The soldier pile and CSM wall with internal steel bracing excavation support was coordinated with existing and as-planned utilities, building construction phasing, and construction equipment including temporary crane trestles and tower cranes and foundations.  A separate sheet pile excavation support was also coordinated with BIM for the underground electrical vault.

 

Trinity Place, San Francisco, California

Provided BIM and coordination for permanent tie down foundation design and temporary deep foundation excavation support system using soldier pile and CSM walls with localized tiebacks.

 

405 Freeway, Los Angeles, California

Provided sequence modeling of structural fill and precast concrete MSE wall for Construction Claim regarding excavation limits.  BIM was used to highlight and illustrate the portions of the work where the contract specifications could not be met with due to sequencing/scheduling and physical conflicts with other work.  Quantities of additional materials required and complex sequencing limitations were displayed on a per phase basis and used as a presentation to validate the claim.

Provided BIM and coordination for the design of a deep excavation support for this 27 story office tower adjacent to the Transbay Tower and Terminal in San Francisco.

 

San Diego Creek Invert Repair, Irvine, California

Project Superintendent for this $15.2M project to repair the invert of San Diego Creek .  Supervised the installation of Sheet Pile, Tie-Backs, groundwater mitigation/ dewatering systems, Excavations for and construction of Concrete Drop Cap and Sheet Pile Cap Structures.

Rovert A. Skinner Treatment Plant, Winchester, California

Project Structures Estimator and Coordinator for this $185M project for the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.  The project consisted of a new Ozone Contactor structure and supporting facilities to integrate into the existing RAS Treatment plant.  Supervised the excavations for 40’ deep pump stations and trenches for utilities.

 

San Fernando Valley Bus Rapid Transit Project, Los Angeles, California

Systems and Utilities Discipline Coordinator for this $173.5M Design Build Project (The Orange Line) for the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority.  Managed Fiber Optic based Transit Information systems, Traffic and Street Lighting, and Stormwater Drainage Systems and excavations for Installations on this 14 mile dedicated busway through the San Fernando Valley..

 

Golden Gate Bridge Seismic Retrofit II, San Francisco, California

Project Superintendent for this $153.6M project.  Managed the design coordination and erection of self climbing scaffold systems for high elevation bridge pier work.  Supervised Hyrdo Blasting operations to remove unsound concrete. Designed a significant portion of the formwork for concrete including seismic retrofit work and historic preservation. Coordinated and negotiated Value Engineering proposals with the Golden Gate Transportation Authority to re-sequence the demolition and reconstruction of the historic west wall of the South Anchor Structure. Supervised the excavations for column footing retrofits inside the West Anchor house for this historically significant structure.

 

110 Freeway Widening, Los Angeles, California

Project Superintendent for this $13M project. Managed and supervised the construction of hillside viaduct, retaining walls, bridge widening, approach slab replacements and deep storm water Drainage Installations. Most of the construction activities took place at night and with considerable traffic control.  Supervised the excavations for structures and utility work including hillside viaducts, storm water drainage systems permanent concrete retaining walls.

 

Redondo Junction Grade Separation, Los Angeles, California

Project Superintendent/Estimator for this $81M Alameda Corridor Grade Separation.

Estimator and Supervised the construction of a one mile flyover structure for rail over the Los Angeles River, Washington Boulevard, and Soto Street for a total of 900 ft of pre-cast  pre-stressed concrete bridge spans and 1450 ft of steel bridge spans .  Work included deep C.I.D.H. foundations using oscillator rigs, Concrete formwork over live rail, 1,600 ft of MSE wall-supported embankment, utility relocations and installations and hazardous materials removals along with .numerous track shoo-flys. Supervised the construction and deep excavations for structures and utility work that took place adjacent to live BNSF, Union Pacific, Amtrack, and Metrolink tracks.

 

Wilkins Slough Positive Barrier Fish Screen, Grimes, California

Project Manager for the $7.2M Wilkins Slough Positive Barrier Fish Screen for Reclamation District 108

Managed the installation of a Sheet Pile Cofferdam and Underwater excavations for Concrete Positive Barrier Fish Screen Structure on the Sacramento River.  Drove sheet Pile, Pipe pile and H Pile from temporary work trestles, extensive dewatering and modifications to the existing pump house and structure.  A new cast-in-place concrete barrier structure with stainless steel self cleaning screens was built inside the dewatered cofferdam.

 

Broadway Bridge Historical and Seismic retrofit, Los Angeles, California

Supervised the Historical and Seismic Retrofit of this important L.A. landmark which used a modern box girder inside the shell of the existing and historical Spandrel Column and Concrete Arch Bridge over the Los Angeles River.  Provided all formwork concepts including hanging formwork over river and custom steel formwork designs for this seismic retrofit - historical preservation.  Supervised the excavations for gravity walls on concrete arch and excavations in the Los Angeles River.

 

New Dock Street Grade Separation. Los Angeles, California

Estimator and Superintendent for this $52.2M grade separation project for the Alameda Corridor/ Port of Los Angeles.  Drove precast concrete, Steel H Pile and Steel Sheet Pile.  Provided Value Engineering Proposal to replace driven steel sheet pile with a bentonite slurry wall design for the depressed overpass structure.  Constructed two deep steel girder rail underpass structures, a series of MSE walls and a pump station and provided hazardous waste mitigation and removal for contaminated soils.  Supervised the excavations for MSE walls and 30’ deep pump station and the excavation for the 80 foot deep deep slurry wall installation.

 

LAX Airport Second Level Retrofit, Los Angeles, California

$7.4M Los Angeles Airport Second Level Roadway Retrofit

Supervised and managed the installation of Steel Columns casings, Hinge Restrainers, and Concrete Bolsters to seismically retrofit the second level roadway.  This work was completed during night time hours while maintaining normal airport operations. Supervised the installation of ring shoring for excavations around existing columns down to 15 feet deep.

 

Emergency Bridge Repair, San Frenando, California

Estimator and Project Superintendent on this $1.8M Emergency Bridge Repair Project

Provided temporary bridge shoring, hinge restrainer replacement, removal and replacement of concrete wing walls, and approach slabs, bridge jacking and bearing pad replacement and methacrolate and shotcrete crack and spalling repair on two heavily damaged bridges in Sylmar resulting from the Northridge Earthquake. Supervised the excavations and support systems for Wing wall demolition and repair adjacent to live traffic on Interstate 5 and I5 Truck route,.

 

Bayfair BART Extension, San Lorenzo, California

Project Superintendent for this $46M Bay Area Rapid Transit project.   Supervised the construction of a mile long precast concrete box girder Arial Structure,  a precast concrete vehicular bridge, a precast concrete railroad underpass, a series of concrete retaining walls and storm water concrete box culvert drainage system and precast concrete pump station.  Most of this work was performed adjacent to a live light rail system or performed during scheduled track shutdowns. A series of track shoo-flys was also required to complete this work. Supervised the excavations and excavation support systems for a 40 foot deep pump station, a ¼ mile long box culvert system and associated retaining walls.

 

Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant, San Francisco, California

Project Engineer/Structures Superintendent

Project Engineer/ Assistant Superintendent for this $181M project for the City and County of San Francisco.  Supervised the construction of an Egg Shaped Digester Complex, Pretreatment and Solids Handling Facility, Chemical Storage Facility, Energy Recovery Building, Gas Storage Facility and concrete arch tunnel. Supervised the excavations for deep footings for all structures on the Solids Handling side of the plant.
